Two people have died, and ten others were injured amid the devastation brought by Typhoon Enteng (#EntengPH) and the southwest monsoon in the country, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The casualties and injuries were reported in Northern Mindanao, where the impact of the typhoon was particularly severe.
According to the NDRRMC report, 14 families or 63 individuals from three barangays in Central Visayas were affected by the typhoon. Due to heavy rains and flooding, 43 individuals were evacuated to ensure their safety and were brought to evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, the number of stranded passengers at various ports in the country has risen to over 700. Of these, 679 were recorded in the Bicol region, while 60 were stranded in CALABARZON. These passengers are waiting for better weather conditions to ensure a safe journey.
Additionally, a landslide occurred in Barangay Sto. Niño, Biri, Northern Samar, leading to the disappearance of a father and son, identified as Federico Acuña Sabangan Sr., 76, and Federico Acuña Sabangan Jr., 29. According to reports, the landslide occurred around 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 1, coinciding with the heavy rains and strong winds brought by Typhoon Enteng.
Four individuals were injured in the said landslide. The victims, identified as Marie, 64; Luz, 56; Enia, 42; and Mae, 8, were immediately taken to Biri District Hospital to receive prompt medical attention.
Authorities are continuously conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing father and son. Experts attribute the combination of Typhoon Enteng and the monsoon rains to the heavy downpours and flooding across large parts of the country, resulting in landslides and other calamities.
The public is reminded to remain vigilant and follow the advisories issued by local governments and the NDRRMC to avoid any further harm. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to prepare their evacuation kits and stay updated with the latest news for information on weather conditions and potential risks brought by Typhoon Enteng and the monsoon rains.
