NPA Rebels Release 2 Soldiers, Duterte Facilitating Again
New People’s Army, NPA rebels released two soldiers who had been abducted in Agusan del Sur were surrendered to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who’s a presidential candidate.
According to a report in GMA News, the two soldiers named Pfc Devin Tawide and Pfc Glen Austria, from the 23rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, were both released in Barangay Balit, San Luis, Agusan del Sur.
In the report, it says that the Tawide and Austria were abducted on April 3 when their motorcycle passed a rebel “checkpoint” in Barangay Lower Olave, Buenavista.

As the soldiers were released by the NPA rebels, they were brought to the 402nd Brigade headquarters.
Duterte has been known to be close to the rebels.
In some reports, he even hailed the group during a speech. According to Duterte, he needs to do it because he’s on the camp of the rebels.
Upon the release of the soldiers, the report says that they are in good condition. Both not harmed.
The custodial force commander of the NPA, Omar Guevera reportedly said that Tawide and Austria were released because they do not have bad records with the NPA – the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
Meanwhile, with Duterte facilitating, two Davao City policemen were released last April 25. Also, on the 26th, another soldier from North Cotabato was released.
