Lawin’s Victim Should Be Helped Using Unspent Calamity Fund, Recto Says
Super Typhoon Lawin’s victims should be helped using the P37 billion unspent calamity fund instead of soliciting foreign aid, Recto Says.
On Monday (October 24, 2016), Senate Minority Leader Ralph Recto said that there’s no need for the government to solicit foreign aid for the victim of typhoon Lawin last week for the P37 billion unspent calamity fund should be used.
The 2015 unused and current year funds are the calamity fund refers by Recto which is known as National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (NDRRMF).
As of December 31, 2015, a P5.09 billion remained from the P14.06 billion and it was added to 2016, P38.9 billion appropriations which have raised to almost P44 billion.
The senator said that P6.9 billion were taken from P6.9 billion leaving a balance of P37 billion at the end of August. Recto also said that if withdrawal on the remaining amount since last month up to this present time happened there will be at least P30 billion available.
