The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that a frontal system is currently affecting Extreme Northern Luzon. This weather system will influence weather patterns across various regions in the country.
Visayas, Palawan (including Kalayaan Islands), and Occidental Mindoro: These areas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Residents should remain cautious as these localized weather disturbances can lead to sudden downpours and lightning. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, contributing to slight to moderate sea conditions.
Luzon (including Metro Manila) and Visayas: Rains are anticipated starting Thursday, marking the onset of the rainy season. PAGASA senior weather specialist Benison Estareja indicated that despite the current hot temperatures, the country is undergoing a monsoon break. This break means that the southwest monsoon (habagat) is temporarily not influencing the country’s weather, allowing easterlies to prevail instead.
“We are experiencing a monsoon break, meaning the habagat is not affecting the country and it is the easterlies. Even though we are at the onset of the rainy season, this monsoon break is still possible. Every year, even when the rainy season starts, there is always a monsoon break,” Estareja explained.
This monsoon break is expected to last only a few days, with rains resuming before the weekend. Estareja emphasized that by Thursday and Friday, more areas in Luzon and the Visayas, including Metro Manila, will experience significant rainfall.
“Before this weekend, rains will resume which means more areas will experience rains by Thursday and Friday. Today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday), areas that could experience rains are in the northern section, and by Thursday and Friday, rains are possible in most of Luzon and Visayas areas, including Metro Manila,” he added.
Additionally, Batanes and Babuyan Islands were expected to experience rains yesterday. Residents in these areas should prepare for wet conditions and potential disruptions due to rain showers.
As the country transitions into the rainy season, PAGASA advises the public to stay informed about the latest weather updates and be prepared for sudden weather changes, especially with the ongoing monsoon break. This period of fluctuating weather highlights the importance of vigilance and readiness for any weather-related events.
