Pangilinan Appeals to Lacson Not to Resign as Blue Ribbon Chair

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan has appealed to Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson to reconsider his decision to resign as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, stressing that his leadership remains crucial in a time of political uncertainty.

Pangilinan emphasized that no member of the Senate majority bloc had asked Lacson to vacate his post, and that the committee still enjoys strong confidence in his stewardship. According to him, Lacson’s experience, credibility, and independence have made him a trusted figure in leading inquiries that demand fairness and accountability.

“In this period of political crisis, the people need stability, truth, and accountability. That is why we need Senator Lacson to continue his role as Blue Ribbon chair,” Pangilinan said. He added that Lacson’s departure could send the wrong signal to the public, who are already questioning the integrity of government institutions.

The Blue Ribbon Committee, one of the Senate’s most powerful panels, plays a vital role in investigating government anomalies and holding officials accountable. Lacson, known for his strict stance against corruption, has led several high-profile hearings that placed a spotlight on issues of transparency and governance. His resignation, Pangilinan warned, could weaken the Senate’s oversight function at a time when Filipinos are demanding stronger checks and balances.

Pangilinan also pointed out that leadership changes in the middle of crucial inquiries might disrupt ongoing investigations and embolden those who wish to avoid scrutiny. “The work of the Blue Ribbon Committee is too important to be derailed. The Filipino people deserve answers, and Senator Lacson’s leadership provides assurance that investigations will proceed with integrity,” he said.

While Lacson has yet to formally announce whether he will push through with his resignation, his allies in the Senate echoed Pangilinan’s call, urging him to weigh the broader implications of stepping down. They underscored that the committee’s independence is vital for restoring public trust in the legislative branch.

For Pangilinan, Lacson’s continued service is not only about maintaining order in the Senate but also about upholding the principles of accountability and transparency that the Blue Ribbon Committee represents. “At a time when faith in our institutions is at stake, we need leaders who will stand firm, not step away,” he concluded.
