Pastor Apollo Quiboloy Has Been Arrested

Fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy has been arrested, Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos revealed in a brief Facebook post on Sunday, September 8. The announcement, which was accompanied by a photo of Quiboloy, stirred public attention, as the controversial religious leader has long been the subject of numerous legal issues both in the Philippines and abroad.

Quiboloy Arrested

Abalos, known for his straightforward communication, shared the news with a simple but impactful caption: “Nahuli na si Pastor Quiboloy!” (Pastor Quiboloy has been caught!). Despite the gravity of the revelation, Abalos did not provide any specific details about the circumstances surrounding Quiboloy’s arrest. The lack of further information left many wondering where and how the fugitive televangelist had been apprehended, as well as what legal steps would follow.

Quiboloy, who leads the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), has been wanted by U.S. authorities on various charges, including sex trafficking, fraud, and coercion. These allegations stem from accusations made by former members of his church, who claim they were manipulated and abused under his leadership. The FBI added Quiboloy to its “most wanted” list in 2022, further intensifying the international manhunt for him.

In the Philippines, Quiboloy has faced multiple legal issues, but he maintained a strong following, and his televangelist programs continued to air. His influence in local politics and connections to high-profile figures, including former President Rodrigo Duterte, have long made him a polarizing figure in Philippine society.

The arrest comes after months of speculation about Quiboloy’s whereabouts, with some suggesting that he had been in hiding abroad to avoid extradition to the U.S. It remains unclear whether his capture will lead to his immediate extradition or if local legal processes will precede any international proceedings.

As the public awaits further updates, Abalos’ revelation has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many expressing mixed feelings about the long-awaited arrest of the influential and controversial leader. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement elaborating on the specifics of Quiboloy’s arrest, but it is expected that more details will emerge in the coming days.
