In celebration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day, temporary road closures will be enforced in Manila on Wednesday, June 12. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that various government and non-government organizations would conduct activities at Rizal Park’s Burnham Green, near the Quirino Grandstand, starting June 10.
The MMDA’s advisory detailed the preparations and logistics for the celebration. To manage traffic and ensure public safety, MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes stated that 1,156 personnel and ambulances, military trucks, dump trucks, and tow trucks will be deployed to assist during the event.
The activities commemorating Philippine Independence Day will conclude on June 12. The following roads will be closed during specific hours on that day:
From 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Roxas Boulevard: Both bounds from T.M. Kalaw to P. Burgos
- T.M. Kalaw: Westbound from Ma. Orosa to Roxas Boulevard
From 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Roxas Boulevard: Both bounds from United Nations Avenue to P. Burgos Avenue
- T.M. Kalaw: Both sides from Roxas Boulevard to Taft Avenue
- P. Burgos Avenue: Both sides and Finance Road
- Bonifacio Drive: From Anda Circle to P. Burgos Avenue
To alleviate the impact on motorists, the MMDA suggested alternate routes:
For Public Utility Vehicles and Private Vehicles Heading North:
- From Roxas Boulevard, turn right onto Quirino Avenue or United Nations Avenue, then turn left onto Taft Avenue to reach your destination.
For Private Vehicles:
- From R-10 heading to Anda Circle, turn left onto Soriano Avenue turn right onto Solana Street turn left onto Muralla Street, continue straight to Magallanes Drive, and then turn right onto P. Burgos Avenue to your destination.
For Trucks Heading Northbound and Southbound:
- Use the South Luzon Expressway, Osmeña Highway, Quirino Avenue, and Nagtahan as alternate routes.
The MMDA emphasized that the actual closing and opening of affected roads will depend on the real-time traffic situation to minimize disruptions.
As the nation prepares to honor its history and heritage, these measures are essential to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the Independence Day activities. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and expect delays near Rizal Park and Quirino Grandstand. The MMDA aims to facilitate a memorable and organized celebration for all attendees.
