Pia Cayetano reacts to Duterte’s catcalling to Mariz Umali.
Outgoing senator Pia Cayetano has reacted to the catcalling of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to GMA News reporter and anchor Mariz Umali while in a press conference.
“I support the President but I don’t agree with the whistling,” the outgoing senator whose a women’s advocate noted in a Twitter post on Thursday night, June 2, 2016 in response to a netizen’s question.
“I don’t condone catcalling. Period. Back read please to see my other statements,” Cayetano said when asked by her followers regarding her stand on the pressing issue.
Her Tweets gained mixed reactions from the netizens and her followers based upon an article published by Inquirer.net.
“I consider you one of the most effective leaders in this country,” @raquickie tweeted. “Don’t you worry, I understand your point, sadyang may mga tao lang na makikitid ang utak (there just really are narrow-minded people),” one of the followers said.
The former Taguig representative is the principal sponsor of senate’s Reproductive Health measure. She is also the chairman of Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality.
Asked by a netizen if she would not stop or advise the upcoming president over his behavior, she stressed that she will tell Duterte personally and not through Twitter.
She also denied being one of the advisers of Duterte, who’s the running mate of her brother Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in the May 9 elections but lost the vice presidential race to Leni Robredo.
Meanwhile, several journalist have gave their reaction over the catcalling incident of Mariz Umali.
Umali herself had earlier aired her statement on the controversy. Her husband Raffy Tima also gave his sentiments with regards to the reported catcalling. Fellow journalist Cesar Apolinario Jr. earlier gave his insight to the issue.
