Manila, Philippines – Both fellow Mindaoan Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez are elected to be the top leaders of the 17th Congress on Monday. Both of them are members of the PDP-laban party of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Pimentel was elected to be a Senate President securing the votes of his 20 colleagues while Alvarez, in the vote of 251 of the 292- member of Lower House was elected as a House Speaker. He defeated Quezon Representative Danilo Suarez who got only 7 votes and Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat who got 8 votes.
