Gibo Teodoro will meet with Rodrigo Duterte.
2010 presidential candidate and former defense secretary Gibo Teodoro has arrived in Davao City to meet with the presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte, following the news that he will be part of his cabinet members.
Teodoro’s wife Monica Teodoro confirmed to Rappler his trip to Duterte’s hometown. According to the report, he was seen arriving at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport on Monday.
Gibo Teodoro is one of Duterte’s top picks for Secretary of National Defense. Even before the campaign started, the outgoing Davao City Mayor called him “brilliant.”
Recently, Duterte’s Peter Laviña confirmed that the mayor already talked with Teodoro, but he refused to give more details about their meeting. He is also didn’t confirm the position to be given to the former defense chief.
Gibo Teodoro was the former defense secretary under Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s term. He also ran in the 2010 presidential elections and lost to his cousin, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
It was reported that Duterte may be referring to Teodoro, an “outside worker” whom he need to persuade to work in the government as his defense secretary. He is also considering a rertired general thought to be the former Armed Forces chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon Jr.
Duterte has yet to finalized his cabinet members. According to Peter Laviña, the cabinet family will be balanced and will represent all sectors. He said that they want to follow Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet
Aside from that, they are also open to talking with people from the administration of outgoing president Nonoy Aquino.
