Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) denies endorsing any Vice Presidential candidate.
The influential religious sect Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) says that they have no official endorsement for Vice Presidential Candidate yet. Senator Bongbong Marcos earlier confirmed that INC has officially endorsed him.
In an interview with GMA News over the phone, spokesperson Edwil Zabala neither deny nor confirm that they are backing Marcos for the vice presidential race. At this time, they are not yet endorsing any vice presidential and presidential candidate.
Basta sa ngayon ay wala pa kaming opisyal na ine-endorso. Maaring mayroon nang napili ang pamunuan pero wala pa kaming ina-announce,” he said.
Earlier this week, several news broke out that INC has officially endorsed Marcos, including the senatorial candidates Francis Tolentino and Martin Romualdez.
However, in a separate interview with Marcos’ media relation officer Honey Rose Mercado, she said that the media misquoted the senator for saying that INC is endorsing him.
She added that they will issue a statement soon, reiterating that Marcos didn’t confirm the endorsement from the religious group.
“Na-misquote siya. We will issue a press statement soon, but definitely walang sinabi si Senator Marcos na siya na nga ang napiling i-endorse,” she said.
INC is one of the bloc-voting religious sects in the country. According to reports, the religious group can carry two million votes from its members.
Meanwhile, several presidential candidates have already sought the endorsement of the sect. This includes Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Liberal Party bet Mar Roxas.
