Do’s And Don’t On The May 9 Elections

As the national elections are just days ahead, here’s a guide everyone must know before the May 9 Elections on Monday, basing on the Resolution No. 10088 of the Commission on Election’s general instructions.

The most important rule to be done during the Election Day is to be WISE voter.

In an article by CNN Philippines, it explains how to be one.

Before the Election Day, it is advised to be an educated voter by studying the platforms and achievements of the candidates whether they are running for the national or local elections.

In order to vote faster and surely, making a list of your bets would really help. Pointing who you wanted to give your votes will make the overall process more efficient. You can bring your list during the Election Day but, not inside the precinct.

Avoid liquors on Sunday, May 8 and on Monday, May 9, the Election Day.

Now, here are the steps in voting during the May 9 Elections:

1. Go to your assigned voting precinct from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 9.

It is advised by the COMELEC to come and vote early and not on the last minute. First, look for your name in the voters list posted usually outside the precinct. The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) will be assisting voters in the precinct.

2. Fall in line in the holding area.

3. Show your name, valid I.D., and precinct number to the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs)

4. Get your ballot, ballot secrecy folder, marker, and now, go to the voting area
Try and prevent any marks on the ballot as it may affect the counting of your votes.

5. Vote Wisely.
In voting, one must shade the entire oval corresponding your chosen candidate. Secure your voting by using the ballot secrecy folder. You’re the only one who can see your votes. One can under vote or abstain but, do not over vote.

6. Feed your ballot into the vote-counting machine
After casting your votes, you can now feed the ballot to the machine. The machine has a green check button and a red “X” one. The green button will cast your vote and the other will return your ballot. If either of these buttons are not pressed, the machine will automatically cast the ballot and will print a receipt.

7. Return the ballot secrecy folder and marker to the assistants.

8. Wait for your receipt to print and let the BEI cut your receipt from the machine.
Do not tear or pull the voter’s receipt from the machine. It may cause the machine problems that may delay the elections. Let the BEI cut the receipt with a pair of scissors.

9. Have your right forefinger marked with indelible ink

10. Have your voter’s receipt and verify your vote

11. Drop the receipt in the container beside the VCM provided by COMELEC

12. Leave the polling precinct.

Don’ts during the May 9 Elections:

  • Do not take photos or videos inside the precinct or anything inside. Do not take selfies. Failing to avoid these things will be an election offense.
  • Use only the marker that’s provided in the precinct in shading your vote.
  • Do not bring the receipt out of the precept. Drop it to the receptacle beside the VCM.
  • Return the marker and the ballot secrecy folder to the BEIs.
  • Do not put unnecessary marks on the ballot aside from the shadings for the candidates. The machine will reject your ballot and you will not have a chance to vote again.
  • If the ballot has been rejected about four tries with any fault or unnecessary mark, you can ask for a new ballot.
