Outgoing mayor of Davao City and incoming President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte released the official list of his campaign contributors during the national and local elections. Based on his official statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) submitted by his camps to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), a former Davao del Norte congressman is his biggest contributor.
The SOCE submitted to the poll body by every candidates both local and national lists the name and the amount of contributions given to every candidates. Comelec announced earlier that the deadline for the submission of campaign expenditure reports will be today. Based upon the SOCE submitted by Pres.
Rody Duterte, his biggest contributor is the former Davao del Norte Rep. Antonio Floirendo Jr., son of the late banana magnate Antonio Floirendo Sr., who donated around P75 million, or 20 percent of the total contributions given to the Davao City Mayor. The incoming President Mayor Duterte received P375,009,474.90 million, of which over P298 million was in cash and the rest in kind.
The campaign expense report of Mayor Duterte also showed that the son of the banana magnate in Mindanao, Antonio Floirendo donated P25 million in cash in March and P50 million in April 2016. Based upon the report of Mayor Duterte submitted by his representative to the Comelec showed he had P3.5 million left but previous reports noted that the camp of Mayor Duterte returned some unspent contributions to their donors.
Based upon the SOCE submitted by Mayor Dutete’s camps, he spent P200,000 of his very own money for his campaign. Aside from Floirendo as the top contributor of Mayor Duterte, other businessmen particularly from Davao City bankrolled his candidacy for President during the May 9, national elections.
Some of the most prominent businessmen who contributed on Mayor Duterte’s campaign were Dennis Uy of Davao-based Phoenix Petroleum (P30 million); Samuel Uy of Davao Farms and Davao Import Distributors Inc. (P30 million); Lorenzo Te of Honda Cars Davao (P30 million); Tomas Alcantara, chair and president of the Alsons Group (P12 million); brother Nicasio Alcantara (P16 million) and Felix Ang, president of CATS Motors Inc. (P10 million).
