Pres. PNoy personally offered his assistance to the next administration in a short phone call because he reserved something more on their expected personal meeting before Mayor Duterte assumed his office as the country’s chief executive. Pres. Aquino told the members of the Malacañang Press Corps over lunch in Manila as he revealed some parts of his conversation with Pres. Dutere.

The phone conversation between Pres. PNoy and the incoming President Duterte is their first-ever conversation since the Davao City Mayor won the 2016 presidential elections against Aquino’s chosen successor, former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas who placed second behind Duterte with a margin of over six million votes.

Aside from giving some hints to the media about Pres. Aquino’s earlier conversation with Mayor Duterte, the outgoing President together with Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr., they met with Duterte’s transition team at the Malacañang Palace on Thursday night. Pres. Aquino also admitted to the media that Mayor Duterte helped him during his campaign in both the Senatorial and 2010 presidential elections.

“Nung ako’y tumakbo both times, tinulungan tayo ni President-elect Duterte, including the presidency. One of the first major turnouts of people happened in Davao,” he said. The incoming President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte was a mayor of Davao City for more than two decades. He was credited for transforming Davao City into one of the Safest City not only in the Philippines but also worldwide.
