Duterte is against the divorce bill because of this reason

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his views against divorce bill which has already passed for second reading in Congress.

The disapproval of the Chief Executive of the Philippines regarding divorce was expressed through Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque during the media briefing in Camarines Sur Polutechnic College just recently.

It was mentioned in a report published in Pilipino Star Ngayon that the President initially does not want to say his side regarding the matter.

On the other hand, since the voting in Congress was already done and it was already approved for second reading, Duterte wants to express that he is against the bill.

This is for the reason that President Duterte worries that if divorce will be legalized in the country; the children as well as the woman of the household will be directly affected by it.

“President Duterte is against divorce. Makakasira ito sa pundasyon ng pamilya. Kawawa ‘yong mga anak kapag nagkaroon ng divorce,” the Presidential Spokesperson iterated.

In addition, Roque said that the wife can no longer file a case against her erring husband if the latter did not perform his duty as the head of the family because they are already divorced.

That is the main reason of the leader of the country why he is against it.

The said bill was already passed for second reading in Congress with Albay Representative Edcel Lagman as its author.

“The Philippines remains as one of only 2 states in the world, besides the Vatican, where divorce is outlawed. Annulments are legal, but the process could take years and cost at least P250,000,” Lagman stated.

It was said in the report that it is expected to pass the Senate also.

After the President expressed his view regarding this issue, House Senior Deputy Minority Leader at Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza, who is also against it, encouraged his fellow lawmakers not to approve the “absolute divorce and dissolution of marriage bill”.
