House Secretary General Reginald Velasco issued the designation, entrusting Abante with the vital role of representing the institution and upholding its integrity in the face of increasing disinformation. In a statement on Tuesday, Abante emphasized her primary task: to combat the growing spread of fake news and restore public trust in legislative processes.

“The House cannot afford to be silent while lies travel faster than truth,” Abante declared. “We will speak with clarity, we will speak with purpose, and we will speak without hesitation.”

Abante, daughter of Manila 6th District Representative Bienvenido Abante Jr., highlighted the House’s commitment to transparency. “We will report to the nation only the truth. No fake news. Nothing more, nothing less, because this is our mandate to the Filipino people,” she said.

Her appointment signals the lower chamber’s stronger push toward information accountability. According to Abante, her mission includes bringing the House’s work closer to the public and dispelling misconceptions about its actions and motives.

“We are entering a time when public trust is no longer given. It must be earned daily, through facts and through honesty,” she said. “That is what this role demands and that is what I intend to uphold.”

Abante also clarified that her role is not only to provide information but also to correct disinformation that could harm the House’s reputation. “We are here to inform, not to inflame,” she said. “But if it is necessary to point out mistakes, if it is necessary to correct the fake news being spread to discredit the House or its members, you can be assured that we will do so.”

Before this appointment, Abante served as spokesperson for Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and was part of her father’s legislative team. Her experience in political communication and public service advocacy is expected to shape her approach as she takes on her new national role.

The designation reflects the House’s resolve to uphold transparency and trust in governance amid a climate of increasing online misinformation.
