The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has launched an investigation into at least 40 luxury vehicles allegedly owned by the family of former Pasig City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno confirmed that the agency will thoroughly review the records of the vehicles, focusing particularly on the identities of their consignees. The move aims to determine whether the importation of high-end cars complied with customs laws and regulations.
“The BOC has the responsibility to ensure that all motor vehicles entering the country are properly declared and taxed. Any irregularities in the importation process will not be tolerated,” Nepomuceno stressed.
The probe follows public attention drawn to the Discaya family’s collection of luxury cars, which they had showcased during interviews and media appearances. The display of their expensive fleet has fueled questions about whether the proper duties, taxes, and import clearances were paid.
According to initial reports, the vehicles in question include high-end brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce, among others. While ownership of such vehicles is not illegal, authorities emphasized that all imported units must pass through BOC scrutiny to ensure compliance with importation rules.
Nepomuceno clarified that the investigation does not immediately imply wrongdoing on the part of the Discaya family. However, he assured the public that the bureau will pursue the matter diligently to uphold transparency and accountability. “We are treating this as a standard compliance check, but if we uncover violations, the appropriate charges will be filed,” he said.
The Discayas have yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, critics noted that their ostentatious display of wealth, particularly their luxury car collection, stands in stark contrast to the economic struggles faced by ordinary Filipinos.
Under customs law, failure to declare or under-declaration of imported vehicles can lead to hefty penalties, seizure of the units, and potential criminal charges against importers.
The BOC’s probe into the Discaya-owned cars adds another layer of controversy surrounding the family, which has recently been the subject of public scrutiny over various issues. Observers say the outcome of the investigation could have wider political and social implications, especially if violations are proven.
For now, the bureau maintains that its actions are part of its mandate to protect government revenue and enforce importation laws without fear or favor.
