QC Councilor Roderick Paulate Charged With Graft, Falsification

Roderick Paulate is facing graft and falsification charges 

Quezon City Councilor Roderick Paulate was charged with graft and falsification at the Sandiganbayan for the alleged hiring of ghost employers as consultants from July to December 2010.

Allegedly, he was able to pocket P1.1 million of collected payments due to this.

The QC Councilor together with Vicente Bajamunde are accused of violating the Section 3 of Republic Act 3019 which is identified as the “Corrupt practices of public officers”.

In addition, the Office of the Ombudsman also accuses Roderick Paulate of “Falsification by a Public Officer defined and penalized under Par. 2 of Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code”.

Based on the article published in ABS-CBN News, Paulate conspired with his driver and liaison officer Vicente Bajamunde in falsification of payroll covering the month of July as they make it to appear that several people are receiving salary from QC government.

The Councilor is facing one count of graft, one count of falsification by a public officer and eight counts of falsification of public documents while his driver is facing one count of graft and eight counts of falsification of public documents for conspiring with him.

According to the Ombudsman, they have caused “undue injury to the Quezon City government in the total amount of P1, 109,000.”

They also made it to appear that the ghost employers received salary when in fact they did not participate in the said acts.

Roderick Paulate is recommended to pay a total bail bond of P246, 000 while Vicente Bajamunde is P30, 000, based on the report.

Prior to his political career, Roderick Paulate is a popular comedian and host. He is known as Kuya Dick among his closest friends in show business.

One of the highlights in his career as an actor/comedian was when he played the role of ‘Petrang Kabayo’.
