A recent statement from PAGASA revealed that careful monitoring of weather events will bring a cool and rainy Christmas under the influence of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and Easterlies. Easterlies, the warm winds from the Pacific, will bring rainfall to areas such as Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Caraga, and the Davao Region.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon will not only bring cool temperatures but also rain to provinces like Apayao, Kalinga, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon. Residents of these areas are cautioned by the agency against possible flooding and landslides, especially during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Isolated instances of afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms may also occur, alongside warm and humid conditions in Palawan and other parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
Despite this, fair weather is expected in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, possibly passing light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon.
The large waves generated by the Northeast Monsoon led PAGASA to prohibit small sea vessel travel along the coastlines of Kalayaan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora.
PAGASA emphasizes that no weather disturbance is expected to affect the country until New Year’s Day. The public is reminded to stay prepared for changes in weather conditions and to follow advisories to ensure everyone’s safety.
Despite the weather challenges, the occurrence of a nuanced Christmas highlights the importance of compassion and concern for one another, exemplifying the spirit of Christmas in the Philippines.
