Rice Priced at 38 Pesos per Kilo “Pang Aso” According to Seller

Many are complaining about the excessively high price of rice, especially considering the hardships brought about by the consecutive onslaught of typhoons in recent days. With the challenges of life and the impact of the continuous storms, it has become increasingly difficult for some of our fellow countrymen to rise above. Earning a daily income seems insufficient to cover daily expenses, exacerbated by the expenses associated with the reopening of classes, which adds further financial strain for some of us.

According to the government, there is allegedly a shortage of rice supply, as some traders have hoarded their stocks. This has prompted the government to conduct raids on warehouses where rice is stored. Another option the government is considering is importing rice from other countries, a move that has sparked controversy in the past, especially when we experienced shortages and price hikes in sugar a few years ago.

It cannot be denied that many of our compatriots are lamenting the exorbitant price of rice. Considering the vast rice fields in the Philippines, it seems implausible for us to run out of supply. There have also been numerous memes and even campaign jingles, where the lyrics were altered to highlight the high price of rice, directing the frustrations of the people towards the government.

In a post by a well-known radio station, the price of rice was shown to be 38 pesos per kilo at a store in the Guadalupe public market. However, according to the vendor, such a price is meant only for dogs, and the actual price of rice for humans ranges from 40 pesos and above.

Hopefully, the government can implement measures to alleviate the burdens faced by our fellow countrymen.”
