San Miguel Corporation (SMC) said in a disclosure Thursday that the company wants to build a bridge that will connect two provinces in the Visayas. The listed firm confirmed plans to submit an unsought proposal to build the Panay-Guimaras bridge.
SMC told the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) that the company has “plan(s) to invest in certain projects in Iloilo City“.

The proposal made by the company comes after the diversified conglomerate broke ground for its new brewery last Friday in Leganes, Iloilo, where SMB’s third facility in the island group next to Mandaue and Bacolod.
The Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge is one of the government’s pipeline of projects which is seen for Chinese funding. This proposal is currently under feasibility study and might expected to cost ₱27.1 billion, with the Panay-Guimaras segment set between ₱9 to 14 billion.
According to SMC, there are other projects being considered such as grain terminal and feed mill that expand the company’s existing production facilities.
Ramon Ang, the president and chief operating officer of San Miguel Corporation, come up with an idea of building a 10-lane elevated highway along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Metro Manila.
San Miguel group also has other unsolicited proposals such as the construction of a new international airport in Bulacan, a new water source, and a bus terminal along the connector road of the North and South Luzon Expressways.
Of all proposals made by the San Miguel group, only the airport proposal has been approved by government. Construction of the airport is set to start in December and will last in five years time.
