Sanvicente allegedly shot a man named Dennis Wong, who was a Filipino-Chinese businessman, according to Evangelista. Sanvicente allegedly shot Wong after he allegedly tried to seize a huge sum of money that he had just withdrawn from an ATM, according to the Supreme Court record.

The victim was discovered laying in the parking space in front of the bank by responding officers. At the crime scene, five rounds of Cal ammo were discovered. 45 handgun, two shots from said firearm, and Violeta Sanvicente ATM card

Joel Sanvicente surrendered Cal. 45 via his attorney, which matched the slugs and shells found at the crime site, according to the Supreme Court record. Investigators found his automobile on June 13, 1995, two days after Wong was shot, somewhere in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija.

In addition, the Medico-Legal Officer who performed the autopsy on Wong’s body did not show up for the trial. Sanvicente’s legal team allegedly filed a ‘demurrer to evidence,’ which was approved by the trial court.

The accused’s camp filed a ‘Motion to Dismiss’ on August 29, 1996, citing the lack of a solid identification of Wong’s killer. Sanvicente’s case was dismissed for lack of evidence by the trial court on October 7, 1996.

Evangelista stated that Joel Sanvicente, the man accused of killing Wong and the father of viral SUV driver Jose Antonio Sanvicente, is the same person.
