Teddy Baguilat Chides Dolomite Beach Claiming It’s Covered with “Cosmetics”
The former Ifugao Representative Teddy Baguilat chides the rehabilitation of dolomite beach saying it is just covered with “cosmetics”.
The defeated senatorial candidate takes a swipe at the government’s Dolomite Beach redevelopment project in Manila Bay. Baguilat described the current renovation of Manila Bay, which includes Dolomite Beach, as “cosmetics” in a tweet.
Blemishes and wrinkles are covered with thick, expensive make-up, according to his tweet. The senatorial candidate also believes that Manila Bay is still full of waste when he dives in.
“Cosmetics. Tinakpan ang mga blemish at tigyawat ng makapal at mahal na make up. Dive tayo sa dagat and we will see how much garbage is there,” he said on his tweet.
Baguilat was one of the government project’s skeptics, it should be remembered. Baguilat advised on May 31 that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) should not waste government cash on Manila Bay rehabilitation during the future administration.
“I hope the first official act of new DENR Secretary is to not spend on Dolomite maintenance. Di naman puede lumangoy don. Spend na lang on mangrove refo[reforestation], coral reef rehab, coastal cleanup, forest protection,” he said.
DENR officials are shown diving into Manila Bay in a video made in 2021. During the dive, no garbage was discovered. It should be remembered that Dolomite Beach in Manila Bay became a source of controversy in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, when the cost of this DENR project exceeded P389 million.
