The Real Reason Duterte’s Davao City House Is Now for Sale

The Davao City residence of former President Rodrigo Duterte is officially for sale, as confirmed by his longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, and their daughter, Veronica Duterte. The revelation came during an interview with DZRH on Saturday night, June 28, where Avanceña shed light on the emotional and practical reasons behind the decision.

Avanceña explained that the house has been left uninhabited for quite some time. “Masakit sa dibdib ko every time I go inside. Ako na lang ang pumapasok diyan. May apat na katulong pero walang amo. We abandoned it after what happened,” she said in a text message to DZRH. Her comments hinted at the emotional strain caused by former President Duterte’s detention and ongoing legal troubles.

The residence was reportedly vacated after Duterte was detained in The Hague by the International Criminal Court (ICC), where he faces serious charges of crimes against humanity related to his bloody anti-drug campaign. Avanceña stated that the incident drastically altered their connection to the home, turning what was once a symbol of family and power into a painful reminder of their current struggles.

Adding to the discomfort is the presence of newly installed surveillance equipment. “I cannot sleep there anymore because the lawyers asked us to install CCTV — even inside the bedroom,” Avanceña disclosed, citing privacy concerns and a lingering sense of unease. The installation of these cameras was reportedly a precaution advised by legal counsel amid Duterte’s ongoing case.

The Duterte home has long been associated with the former president’s rise from mayor of Davao City to national leadership. Now, however, it sits empty, maintained only by staff, with no family members choosing to live there.

As of this writing, no asking price has been announced, and there are no known potential buyers. The rest of the Duterte family—Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte, Mayor Sebastian Duterte, and Vice President Sara Duterte—have not yet issued any statements regarding the property sale.

The sale of the residence marks a symbolic chapter in the Duterte family’s current circumstances, reflecting not just an address change but also a dramatic shift in their once unshakable political and personal standing.
