The Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, also known as Quiapo Church, has issued reminders for devotees participating in the traslacion on January 9, 2024. The Traslacion is a traditional celebration where millions of devotees are expected to converge to pay homage to Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, better known as the Black Nazarene.
There are important “Don’ts” for everyone’s safety. First, climbing or jumping on the transport platform carrying the image of the Black Nazarene is strictly prohibited. This is to maintain a respectful attitude towards the image. Second, pushing and crowding are not allowed to avoid accidents and injuries. Third, bringing large bags or items is prohibited. If unavoidable, transparent bags must be used for quicker inspection.
On the other hand, there are also “Do’s” recommended for devotees. Devotees may throw handkerchiefs to wipe different parts of the Black Nazarene’s image. The use of a lever or rope to guide the way of the Black Nazarene is also encouraged to prevent disruptions in the procession.
Additional reminders come from Quiapo Church. It is emphasized that the weak, persons with disabilities, and children are better off staying on the side of the street for their safety. Proper eating before going to the Traslacion is also crucial to ensure strength throughout the procession.
With the lifting of restrictions, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Tuesday that they will deploy around 16,000 personnel to ensure the safety of the expected millions of devotees. This step is part of the PNP’s assurance that the Traslacion will be conducted smoothly and safely.
Cooperation among everyone is crucial to maintaining similar devotion and preparedness in managing this large procession. The Traslacion is not only a religious celebration but also a manifestation of unity and devotion of the community.
