On Thursday, the country’s biggest TV Networks, ABS-CBN and GMA-7, were criticized after airing a controversial political ad against the Presidential frontrunner Rodrigo Duterte. The said advertisement has received negative reactions from the viewers.

The advertisement shows children reacting to the controversial remarks of the tough-talking politician. This includes his statement about the Australian missionary and his swearing at Pope Francis.

Netizens reacted negatively to the advertisement with some saying that it has violated the Republic Act No. 9006, also known as the “Fair Elections Act.”

According to the RA No. 9006, “no political advertisement or propaganda for or against any candidate or political party shall be published or broadcast through mass media.”

Based on the Sec. 85 of Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines on Prohibited forms of election propaganda, “to show or display publicly any advertisement or propaganda for or against any candidate by means of cinematography, audio-visual units or other screen projections except telecasts which may be allowed as hereinafter provided.”

It is said that the political ad was produced and paid for by Senator Trillanes IV. The senator, who is also running for the vice presidential seat, was the one who exposed Duterte’s alleged ill-gotten wealth.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Duterte is still the leading presidential candidate according to the latest Pulse Asia Survey and Laylo Survey despite his controversies and allegations thrown against him.

The presidential elections is schedule on Monday May 9 according to Commission on Election (Comelec).
