Social media plays a significant role in our everyday lives. It serves as a wellspring of information, a tool for communication, and is also utilized by politicians in their campaigns. It also serves as a source of income for bloggers and content creators, which is why the plan of Twitter CEO Elon Musk to impose a small fee for Twitter users is of great importance.
In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Musk asserted that the introduction of a “small monthly fee” for using Twitter is the only way to combat various automated accounts, known as bots. However, there are concerns that this could potentially lead to Twitter’s downfall, as X users unite in expressing their frustration.
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in April 2022 for an estimated $44 billion, but there have been doubts due to the loss of nearly half of its advertisers.
If Twitter were to introduce user fees, it would also have a significant impact on Filipinos, given its crucial role as a source of information. Currently, there has been no official statement from Twitter regarding this matter.
