Due to continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, various local governments in the Philippines have announced class suspensions for Tuesday, July 23, 2024. This is a running list; updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
In Metro Manila, Malabon City has suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools. The local government made the announcement through social media, emphasizing the need for precautionary measures due to the expected high tide. “WALANG PASOK | Mananatiling suspendido ang pasok sa lahat ng antas sa mga paaralan sa lungsod bukas, Hulyo 23, 2024 dahil sa epekto ng habagat at high tide,” stated the Malabon LGU.
San Juan City has also suspended classes at all levels. Mayor Francis Zamora announced, “Due to the expected heavy rains, classes on July 23, 2024, at all levels in the City of San Juan, both public and private, are suspended for the safety of everyone!”
Outside Metro Manila, the provincial government of Cavite declared a suspension of classes through social media channels. “Please be advised that Governor Jonvic Remulla has declared the suspension of classes in the Province of Cavite for tomorrow, July 23, 2024, as announced on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. Stay safe and take necessary precautions,” the announcement read.
In Bataan, Governor Jose Enriquez Garcia confirmed the suspension of classes at all levels. “#WalangPasok bukas, ika-23 ng Hulyo, ang mga klase sa lahat ng antas ng mga pampubliko at pribadong paaralan sa Lalawigan ng Bataan,” he stated in his Facebook post. He cited the latest PAGASA report and the recommendation of the Bataan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), which forecasted heavy rains and strong winds due to the intensified southwest monsoon, influenced by Typhoon Carina.
Similarly, Pampanga’s provincial government has suspended face-to-face classes for all levels in both public and private schools. Governor Dennis Pineda issued Executive Order No. 14 – 2024, mandating the suspension. The announcement was made following a heavy rainfall warning from PAGASA, which placed Pampanga under the Orange Warning Level, indicating a threat of flooding in low-lying areas and those near rivers. “Naglabas din ang DOST-PAGASA ng Heavy Rainfall Warning Nr. 9 na naglalagay sa Pampanga sa Orange Warning Level, kung saan may banta ng pagbaha sa mga mababang lugar at malapit sa mga ilog,” read the announcement.
