Wearing Face Shields Required In Areas With High Coronavirus Cases
FACE SHIELDS REQUIRED – As the Philippines saw a massive spike in the number of coronavirus cases, wearing face shields would not be required in certain areas.
Yesterday, the Philippines saw an unprecedented spike in the number of COVID-19 infections with almost 4,000 reported cases. However, the Department of Health also announced a mass recovery of more than 38,000 patients.
In an attempt to lower the virus in certain areas in Metro Manila and Calabarzon, face shields are now required in addition to face masks. According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, face shields are going to be a minimum health standard in the coming months. Furthermore, Roque emphasized the importance of other health protocols such as washing hands and social distancing.
Based on an article from CNN, Roque said the face shields are part of the “conditionalities” for Metro Manila and Calabarzon as they remain under a General Community Quarantine despite the number of coronavirus cases. However, Roque did not mention when the new rule would come into play.
Meanwhile, the Testing Czar Vince Dizon said wearing the face shields would highly improve the public’s protection against the respiratory disease. As per the article, he said:
“In areas where the spread is wide, we need to increase our protection by wearing face shields“
Currently, the Philippines has over 89,374 cases of COVID-19 with almost 2,000 confirmed deaths. Meanwhile, due to the questionable memorandum of the DOH, the number of recoveries spiked to 65,064.
In just one day, the number of active coronavirus cases in the country dropped from over 55,000 to around 22,000. The sudden drop was due to the DOH tagging asymptomatic patients who have finished their 14-day quarantine as “recovered” despite a lack of final testing.
