Clinton Foundation received a big amount of gift while she was serving as US Secretary of State.
The Clinton Foundation received a $1 million gift from Qatar during the time when Hillary Clinton was serving as the U.S. secretary of state and they did not inform the US State Department.
This was confirmed by the foundation also through an email which was hacked months ago and published by WikiLeaks.
The email from an official of Clinton Foundation was sent to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman, John Podesta.
The email said that officials of Qatar promised the money in 2011 to mark the 65th birthday of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton’s husband.
The said country sought to meet the former president of the U.S in person in 2012 to present him the check.
Last month, the officials of the foundation refused to confirm the Qatar donation.
This week, Brian Cookstra, a foundation spokesman, said that it accepted the $1 million gift from Qatar.
However, this did not mean to a material increase in the Gulf country’s support for the charity. Cookstra failed to confirm whether Qatari officials was favored for their requested meeting with Bill Clinton.
Officials at Qatar’s embassy in Washington and in its Council of Ministers in the capital city Doha were also reached out, but they declined to discuss the donation.
According to the State Department, it holds no record of the foundation submitting the Qatar gift for review.
The foundation also confirmed they did not inform the State Department they received the big amount.
When asked for some questions, the department spokeswoman did not answer.
The website of Clinton Foundation said the Qatar’s government has directly given a total of between $1 million and $5 million over the years but it was already accumulative.
If Clinton will be elected president, the foundation has promised it would no longer accept money from foreign governments.
