An official said that former mayor of New York City emerges to be Trump’s favorite to be next secretary of state.
The former mayor of New York City has emerged as the favorite candidate to be next secretary of state of the United States, under the administration of president-elect Donald Trump.
A senior Trump official said on Tuesday, Manila Time that former mayor Rudy Giuliani might be the only candidate for the position.
Talking to the Associated Press, the official who wasn’t authorized to speak on the record and requested anonymity said that there’s no real competition for the job and that it’s the former New York mayor’s if he wants it.
The former mayor and federal prosecutor earlier expressed he wouldn’t be attorney general in a Trump administration. He said this on Monday night while speaking at a Wall Street Journal CEO Council event in Washington.
Before Trump gained the stunning victory on Wednesday, Manila Time, Giuliani had been considered a leading prospect for that job.
There are sources which tell that John Bolton, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is also being considered for the nation’s top diplomat position.
During the campaign days, Giuliani became one of the closest advisers of Trump. He functioned as the president-elect’s most vocal defender on cable news programs and he also introduced him at many rallies. Giuliani has also been mentioned as a possible attorney general or homeland security secretary.
Trump’s inauguration is just 66 days away, however, he focused on building his team and speaking to foreign leaders.
Recently, Trump spoke to Russian president Vladimir Putin on the phone. His transition office said in an official statement that “he is very much looking forward to having a strong and enduring relationship with Russia and the people of Russia.”
Aside from Putin, Trump has also spoken with the leaders of China, Mexico, South Korea and Canada.
On the other hand, Trump was considering to tap Richard Grenell as US ambassador to the United Nations. He would be the first openly gay person to fill a Cabinet-level foreign policy post.
