Philippines’ Arbitration Case, ‘Illegal’ As China Says
Philippines’ Arbitration Case – China has insisted that it will not honor the coming ruling of the United Nations (UN) arbitral tribunal, regarding China’s claim over the West Philippine Sea. China said that the arbitration case filed by the Philippines was “illegal from the very beginning.”
In a report by PhilStar, the Philippines filed an arbitration case against China regarding its nine-dash line claim following the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang, the Asian Giant is supporting the authority, integrity, and sanctity of international law and that includes the UNCLOS.
“You may have noted that more and more countries have joined the Chinese government in voicing their disagreement, supporting all sovereign states in independently choosing dispute settlement regime in accordance with international law and encouraging countries concerned to resolve disputes through direct dialogue,” said Lu as quoted in the report.
The Chinese spokesperson said that the most of the international community is not agreeing with the arbitration ruling because is it an illegal thing.
He then pointed out that the two countries, the Philippines and China, have already agreed to resolve the dispute through bilateral negotiation and added that it is beyond the range of UNCLOS.
As expected, the UN Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands will be issuing its final decision on the arbitration case filed by the Philippines to China by 5 p.m., today, July 12, 2016.
Will the ruling go with the Philippines? Or will it go with China?
