Pope Francis Declines To Personally Judge Donald Trump After Win

Pope Francis is concerned for the impact of politicians on the poor.

The highest leader of the Catholic Church refused to directly answer the question asking about his reaction on Donald Trump’s election as the new US President.

Instead, Pope Francis said he was interested only in the impact of politicians’ choices on the poor.

This was the pope’s response when he was asked to give personal assessment on the victory of Trump against former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on US presidential election on November 8.

In an Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the Argentine pontiff was quoted saying: “I do not make judgements on people and political men, I only want to understand what suffering their behaviour causes to the poor and the excluded.”

Francis added that his greatest concern at the moment is for refugees and migrants. He then continue saying and declare: “We must knock down the walls that divide.”

The pope suggested earlier this year, that Trump’s proposed policy on immigration, which included a campaign pledge to build a wall on the US-Mexican border to keep out illegal immigrants, was “not Christian.”

Later, a papal spokesman clarified this was not a personal attack.

On Wednesday, the Vatican’s highest-ranking diplomat wished Trump well in government, and said he would pray for the incoming president’s “enlightenment.”

Since the campaign period, Trump has boldest proposals and most radical promises. Included here is the plan to build a border wall and establish a police force to deport 10 million undocumented workers in the United States.

As Trump’s administration is getting near, there are fears that his administration would make it much harder to be poor in America.

First, there are possibilities that Obamacare may be toast. Because by rolling back the Medicaid expansion and ending private subsidies, Republicans would almost certainly send the uninsured rate back up to Bush-era levels.

Second, the proposed tax cut of Trump will be one of the largest ever, possibly reducing federal revenues by more than $6 trillion in the next decade.
