Trump had very productive meeting with the first official from UK who met with him personally.
US President-elect Donald Trump had a very productive meeting with Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party, a leading proponent of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.
On Sunday, Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway said that the incoming US president always have a busy day where he is making phone calls, giving interviews and holding meetings. One of thess is the meeting with Farage.
To recall, the UK residents voted, through a referendum, to exit as part of the European Union (EU). The leading proponent of the said move was the party of Farage.
According to Conway, Mr. Farage’s discussion with the president-elect was “very productive.”
“I think they enjoy each another’s company and they absolutely had an opportunity to talk about freedom and winning and what this all means for the world,” Conway said.
Based on the record, Farage is the first U.K. official that Trump has met with in person since he won the election on Wednesday, Manila Time.
During the campaign days in the United States, the two officials struck up a rapport, when they appeared together at a rally where Trump has introduced Farage as “Mr. Brexit.”
In his Twitter account, Farage wrote that he was “especially pleased at [Mr. Trump’s] very positive reaction to the idea that Sir Winston Churchill’s bust should be put back in Oval Office.”
To recall, outgoing President Barack Obama removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office several years ago. He placed it outside his private office on the second floor of the White House. Instead, he replaced the Churchill bust in the Oval Office with Martin Luther King Jr.’s bust.
After winning the White House race with a stunning upset, Trump has spoken with a number of world leaders. However, Conway said she wasn’t aware if Trump has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
