Andray Blatche will now play for the Gilas Pilipinas basketball team for the Manila Olympic Qualifying Tournament and if ever, at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In a report in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, it states that naturalized player Andray Blatche has already committed to play for Gilas Pilipinas.
This is because the handlers of Andray Blatche together with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) have finally had an agreement between each other’s camp. This is according to Gilas’ team manager Butch Antonio.
“Over the weekend, I got an email already informing us that Andray is on board. We said last week that it was a 99.9-percent possibility, but I’m really glad that it’s over and done with,” he said. When we came to terms, it wasn’t that difficult and all parties were amenable and cooperative with everything, from the terms to the duration (of the contract),” said Antonio as quoted in the article.
Team manager Butch Antonio didn’t put all the details of the agreement but he insisted that “It was fair.”
According to Antonio, the naturalized player is expected to arrive on May 15 to join the national team in practices but, it will still depend on Gilas Pilipinas coach tab Baldwin.
The Olympic slot is set on July 2016 at the Mall of Asia Arena and it is expected to see thousands of basketball fans in the venue, mostly, Filipinos.
The Philippines will battle against the teams from France and New Zealand where some NBA players like Tony Parker and Nicolas Batum are expected to be seen on July 5-10.
