Bob Arum expressed opinions days before the awaited fight of Manny Pacquiao and Jessie Vargas.
Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said it would be a tremendously devastating loss for Manny Pacquiao if he will not defeat Jessie Vargas.
This was the comment of Arum few days before the fighting senator and the American boxer step into the ring in Las Vegas on November 6 (Philippine Time).
“He has a hell of a shot,” Arum says without hesitation.
“The reason is that Manny has been consumed by all of this talk that he has to become a knockout guy again, he has to go all out to sustain his popularity. So Manny will go after Jessie and be very, very, careless and he will bring his best offensive game.
“Jessie is a kid that has all the guts in the world and that’s the kind of fight he wants,” Arum says.
Pacquiao is well in southpaws while Vargas use the orthodox stance.
“Because if Manny is going to go in there with the intention of knocking out Jessie and being very aggressive, that gives Jessie the best opportunity to win the fight. He’s a hell of a puncher, he’s got a lot of guts and you look at his career, he does very well against southpaws, better than he does against orthodox fighters.”
“It would be a tremendously devastating loss for him,” Arum says. “There’s no question about it. It’s not like he’s in his early 30s or late 20s and he loses. It happens to fighters all the time. It will have been a loss at the back end of his career when in fact he is spending so much time with what other people say is his real career, being a senator.”
Pacquiao served as a Congressman of Sarangani province before he ran for senator on May 9, 2016 national and local elections.
