Lopez, Alora: Filipina Jins Race For Competing In The Coming Rio Olympics 2016.
Two Filipina jins race for the opportunity to compete in the Rio Olympics 2016.
One is Pauline Lopez who advanced in the semifinal round of the Asian Taekwondo Olympic qualifying tournament. She beat Nurul Farah Alisa Roslan of Malaysia in the 47-kilogram weight class.
According to reports in GMA News Online, Pauline Lopez will be facing next Phannapa Harnsujin of Thailand in the semifinal rounds.
If ever Lopez wins, she will then have the opportunity to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“I am looking forward to this opportunity,” said Lopez as quoted in Rappler.
“This is a long time coming as the dream to get to this stage started 9 years ago when I first took up taekwondo.
“People say that youth means a lack of experience. I’ve been fighting since I was 10 years old so I think I have enough experience. If we can do this now then why not?” she says.
Earlier, there is another Filipina jin who already had a ticket going to the Rio Olympics. Her name is Kirstie Elaine Alora.
In the 67 kilogram division, Alora beat Iranian Akram Khodobandeh at the Marriot Grand Ballroom.
Before facing the Iranian, she needed to beat Nisha Rawal of Nepal.
Alora also said that she’s looking forward of watching her fellow National teammate fight during the Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualifiers.
Kirstie Elaine Alora is said to be the fourth Filipino athlete to claim a ticket going to the Olympics. The other three include Eric Cray, Rogen Ladon, and Charly Suarez.
