I Do Not Underestimate Jessie Vargas
Just a few days before the comeback fight of eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao against a younger boxer, the World Boxing Champion welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, on November 5.
Even with the outstanding boxing career of Pacquiao, he said in a report by ABS-CBN that he is not underestimating the younger champion, Vargas, whom he will be facing at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
“I do not underestimate Jessie Vargas. He is a good strong champion. Every opponent gets my full attention and respect,” Pacquiao said as quoted in the report.
According to Pacquiao, he trained hard as this is ‘the most important fight for him.
“I respect Jessie and that is why I trained hard. This is the most important fight because it will determine the direction of my boxing career,” he said.
Pacquiao said that he needs to win in a ‘convincing matter’. He also said that they have “three plans” for Vargas but, he said that his first concern is for the fans, as he aims to satisfy the people who will be watching.
The Filipino boxing icon added that he is ‘fighting for history’ of being the first senator to have a world title in boxing. Before becoming a senator, Pacquiao was a congressman in Sarangani Province.
He added that he still wanted to prove that he is still one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing, and said that he will continue to keep fighting as long as he loves boxing, vice versa.
“I want to prove that I am still one of the best pound-for-pound fighters. I am not done with boxing. I will continue to keep fighting as long as I love boxing and boxing still loves me. I do not feel old. I feel like I am still 27,” Pacquiao said.
Meanwhile, Vargas has a record of 27 wins including 1 loss, while Pacquiao has a record of 58 wins, 2 draws, and 6 losses during his entire career.
