Pacquiao Should Retire To Protect Health, Says Bob Arum

Top Rank Promotions Inc. CEO Bob Arum said that Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao needs to retire soon in order to preserve his health.

According to an article on Rappler, Arum spoke in a recent press conference for the Pacquiao-Bradley III bout on April 9. The promoter said that Pacquiao’s health would be at risk he continued his boxing career.

“One thing we don’t want to happen is as he gets older, it’s a dangerous sport and we don’t want him to suffer any brain damage. He means too much to his country and the world. So if he asks for my advice, I’d say ‘Manny Pacquiao it’s time to hang it up,’” said Arum as quoted in the article.

In recent reports, the 37-year-old Manny Pacquiao already told that this fight on April 9 with Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley would be his last. Pacquaio has been in boxing for about 21 years now.

Pacquiao recorded 57 wins, 6 losses, 2 draws, including 38 knockouts while Tim Bradley has a record of 33 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw, and has 13 KOs. The two will clash again for the third and last time at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although Manny’s trainers Freddie Roach and Justin Fortune still wants the eight-division world boxing champion Pacquiao to continue fighting in the ring, Bob Arum already suggests halt.

Manny Pacquiao is one of the most exciting athletes Top Rank has promoted. Arum says that Pacquiao’s contract was up until 2017 but, the promoter added that Pacman has no obligation to finish it after April 9.

“If he wants to retire, there’s nothing to say that he’s violated the contract. He has the absolute right to retire,” Arum said.

Pacquiao will make about $20 million while Bradley will make about $4 million on their third boxing match.
