Eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao might be extending his boxing career and probably adding 2016 Rio Olympics gold medals to his cabinet.
Manny Pacquiao was invited by the International Boxing Association head Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu to join the Olympic qualifying tournament in Hebei, China. This is according to Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines executive director Ed Picson.
Wu is trying his best to get professional boxers to join the 2016 Rio Olympics and that includes Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.
“We want the best boxers to come to the Olympic Games. It is AIBA’s 70th birthday, and we want something to change – not after four years, but now. It is an IOC policy to have the best athletes in the Games, and of the international federations, AIBA is probably the only one without professional athletes in the Olympics,” Wu said as quoted in DailyMail.
The AIBA has already announced several times that Pro-boxers can now be endorsed by their national teams to join the Olympics.
Manny Pacquiao has been already invited and his response:
“It would be my honor to represent the country in the Olympics. If I would be asked to represent boxing, why not? I would do everything for my country,” Pacquiao told Agence France-Presse.
Meanwhile, Manny Pacquiao will be having a boxing match against Timothy Bradley on April 9. It will be held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This fight is said to be Pacquiao’s last fight of his professional boxing career.
