Filipino Youth Shocked By Martial Law: “Iba po ang kwelto na naririnig ko sa school”

When talking about Martial Law, for sure a lot of Filipino people are still in trauma because of this historical event. This was the time when the late President Ferdinand Marcos ruled the Philippines. But before we go beyond the story of Martial Law, first let us identify of what Martial Law really is.

It is when the head of the state of the President proclaims that a certain area is placed under the rule or control of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The imposition of Martial Law includes curfews, suspension of civil law, civil rights, habeas corpus, and the application or extension of military law or military justice.

Yesterday, a video unmask the idealization of the event during the Marcos period. The video was posted by the group Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang – Carmma.

As can be seen in the video, they invited several Filipino youths for an interview on what they knew about Martial Law that happened in the Philippines. The video now garnered, more than 1 million views, 16 thousand likes and more than 44 thousand shares and still counting.

As the video is rolling, these young Filipino defines martial law, defining it as a time of discipline and prosperity.

One interview said, “”Mas pinaiiral and batas, ay disiplina ang tao at alam nila ang curfew.”

The other interviewee sited a positive definition and likened to the Marcos regime as like to the tough love of a parent.

“Sobrang higpit talaga niya. Pero ang higpit niya ay parang pagmamahal ng magulang,” one interviewee said.

When they are asked if they are in favor of martial law, they responded all the same – “yes.”

But it doesn’t end there…

The mode of this video changes when the camera changed its direction focusing when the interviewers introduced themselves.

Meet Marie Maiso, Rodel Briones, Danilo dela Fuente and Lourdes Victoriano, these guys were all human rights victims of the Martial law – Marcos regime.

This video campaign encourages people of the Philippines to sign a petition to include the terrifying stories experienced by Filipino people during martial law and rewrite the country’s history books.
