US Bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 From Air Transport
US Bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone devices are going to be banned in the United States from air transport starting Saturday because of an emergency order.
According to a report on ABS-CBN, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has stopped the production of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7 due to incidents of reported phones catching fir3 and even smoking.
After these incidents, Samsung has offered replacement of the units but still gained warnings from phone carriers, regulators, and airlines.
US Transportation Department Secretary Anthony Foxx has said that the measures are done to stop the carrying of these specific devices needs to be understood by the passengers as it is for the safety of all passengers aboard aircraft.
“We recognize that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority,” Foxx said as quoted.
“We are taking this additional step because even one fire incident in-flight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk,” he added.
The report added that the US Transportation Department warned passengers of “a catastrophic incident” if they would insist on packing the devices in checked luggage.
It said that authorities might confiscate these specific devices from passengers who will be attempting to take them in the aircraft, and owners might also face fines. It has been clarified that passengers who will be caught carrying these devices would only face “denied boarding”.
Samsung, the world’s largest phone maker, has faced trust issues regarding the specific flagship, Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy Note 7s, wherein millions of these devices have been recalled on September 15.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Samsung has received 96 reports of overheating batteries in Note 7 in the United States alone.
