Girl Joins 13-Mile Half-Marathon By Mistake, Finishes It
A 12-year-old girl named LeeAdianez Rodriguez from western New York mistakenly joins a 13-Mile Half-Marathon but finishes it anyway.
LeeAdianez Rodriguez was registered for a 5k race at the Rochester Regional Health Flower City Challenge last Sunday. Rodriguez thought that she was already late for the start of the race so she just began running the other runners.
Then, kept on running together with the others without realizing that she run the half-marathon route. But, until such time in the half-way that she realized that she was in the wrong race. She still decided to finish the race.
According to Democrat and Chronicle, Rodriguez finished the 13-mile half-marathon in 2:43:31.
“She gave me a really big scare,” said Brendalee Espada, her mother.
She said that for nearly two hours, she has been searching for her daughter in and around the finish line and in the Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial, the place where post-race events are held.
Espada began to worry about her daughter and even asked the race officials about her only to find out that her daughter didn’t start the 5k run.
Then, the police spotted Lee running her few left miles.
According to Espada, her daughter just said that she wanted to finish the race.
At last, the mother, and the daughter united with tears and hugs. Then the mother said that she was baffled to know that her daughter has finished the long 13-mile run.
Now, Lee plans to run in The Color Run this May.
