German University Offers Grant For Doing Nothing
GET PAID DOING NOTHING – Couch potatoes rejoiced as a German University was giving a grant for doing absolutely nothing.
However, this isn’t your ordinary couch potato level of inactivity. According to the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, their research involves a “specific form” of “active inactivity”. So, there seems to be more to do this than surface level.
The University called their grant the “idleness grants” as part of their research for an exhibition on sustainability. Furthermore, applicants of the grant were allowed to choose their own form of “idleness”. Then, a panel made up of school officials would choose the best.
Meanwhile, the majority of us would think that doing nothing would be easy, especially if there’s cash involved. However, according to the design theorist of the program, “doing nothing isn’t very easy”.
According to an article from UPI, Friedrich von Borries stated:
We want to focus on active inactivity. If you say you are not going to move for a week, then that’s impressive. If you propose you are not going to move or think, that might be even better.
Additionally, Von said the period of inactivity depends solely on the applicants. He explained that choosing not to sleep could only be done for a couple of days. Meanwhile, choosing not to shop would be something more sustainable.
Luckily, all the applicants would be given the grant whether or not their “inactivity” was successful. Furthermore, the applicants would be paid after submitting their “inactivity” reports mid January of the next year.
Unfortunately, those who are looking for a quick buck doing nothing needs to wait a while for the payout.
