Cebu-based writer and LGBT community member Jude Bacalso is currently under fire after allegedly forcing a waiter to stand for hours as punishment for calling him “sir.” The incident, which took place at a restaurant located in a Cebu mall, was highlighted in a viral post by netizen John Calderon.
According to Calderon, the event unfolded around 4 PM when he first noticed Bacalso engaging with a standing waiter. Initially, Calderon thought they were simply conversing and did not pay much attention. However, when he saw the same waiter in the same position at 6 PM, he became concerned.
Calderon decided to intervene and approached Bacalso to ask if he was the restaurant’s owner. Bacalso reportedly responded sarcastically, instructing Calderon to ask the waiter what had happened. Calderon then turned to the waiter, who explained that he had mistakenly addressed Bacalso as “sir.”
“I asked this guy Jude if he was the owner or customer. The guy Jude sarcastically said, ‘Go ask him (referring to the server) what happened.’ Then I asked the server what happened, and he answered, ‘Natawag ko siyang sir,'” Calderon recounted in his post.
Further details from Calderon revealed that other restaurant employees were hesitant to intervene because of Bacalso’s close relationship with the establishment’s owner. It was only after Calderon’s involvement that the waiter was allowed to leave his position.

“You voicing for LGBTQ? For that mere mistake sa server, is that how you want to influence? Part ko sa LGBT myself and you bring shame sa ating community,” Calderon stated.
