Homeless girl in Quiapo graduates from College.
A homeless girl in Paterno Street, Quiapo, Manila named Rodallie S. Mosende who recently finished her college education is currently making rounds online as she continues to inspire many netizens.
Mosende, who grew up on the streets of Quiapo, used to beg money from strangers and asked food from them if she’s hungry.
The Filipino Times noted in an article that she also plead for meat and vegetables from vendors the time her mother got sick, promising that when she got older, she would probably pay them back.
But in 2011, her life changed. She crossed path with Rick Rocamora, a documentary photographer who made a documentary about homeless in Quiapo, was stirred upon her determination to finish high school.
Her story which was featured on vivid photos taken by Rocamora inspired an anonymous benefactor who pledged to support her college education.
Netizens from several social media platforms also went out to extend financial support to Rodallie S. Mosende.
However, the support she gained was not enough to sustain her well particularly her transportation allowance and meal. She worked as a street sweeper to aid her transportation and food.
Last April 23, 2016, she graduated with a degree in International Hospitality Management which specializes in cruise line operation in hotel services, from the Lyceum University of the Philippines in Manila.
“Kahapon po kinakabahan ako. Kagabi po hindi ako makatulog,” she said in a video shared by Rocamora, “Baka panaginip lang po ‘to kasi!” she added.
