During the time of our ancestors, it was customary for the elderly in our community to resort to traditional healing methods performed by a Folk Healer, commonly known as an “Albularyo.” As time has passed, fewer of our fellow countrymen have continued to patronize this practice for various reasons. We have become accustomed to modern science, where trained medical doctors are responsible for treating our ailments. Some have also fallen victim to the deception of individuals posing as folk healers, merely looking to profit financially. In such cases, the patients do not experience a full recovery, often because their illnesses are more severe and require more profound medical intervention.
In the contemporary era, only a few people still seek the services of folk healers, but it is not our intention to cast aspersions on those who continue to believe in this practice. In this video, which we have turned into an article, we have based our content on the comments of several netizens who have watched and shared their opinions.
In the video, we can observe a woman who, according to belief, has been possessed by an evil spirit. The folk healer attempts to expel this spirit from the woman’s body, claiming that “Limang mangkukulam na kapithabay ang na inggit at galit kay ate” Some netizens did not let this pass, particularly one comment that introduced the term “Mekus-Mekus,” popularized by the famous Indian vlogger known as Mr. Nobody.
A few netizens also noticed the woman seated in the background while the supposed healing was being performed, seemingly relaxed or “chill.” Belief in the healing methods of a folk healer ultimately lies with us, and it is our personal choice whether we consider it as a means to recovery. However, we cannot ignore the negative reactions brought about by modern technology in today’s world.
