MANILA, Philippines — July 20, 2025. Several local government units across Luzon have announced class suspensions for Monday, July 21, 2025, as heavy rains continue to affect parts of the country due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Class Suspension

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that persistent downpours may lead to flooding, especially in low-lying areas. In response, local officials have issued class suspensions in affected municipalities and cities to ensure the safety of students and school personnel.

As of Sunday evening, the following areas have confirmed class suspensions:

Bataan

  • All levels, public and private schools

Benguet

  • Atok: No face-to-face classes from preschool to senior high school (public and private)
  • Kibungan: No face-to-face classes from preschool to senior high school

Bulacan

  • Balagtas, Bocaue, Bulakan, Calumpit, Guiginto, Meycauayan: No face-to-face classes at all levels (public and private)
  • Malolos, San Jose del Monte: All levels, public and private schools

Pampanga

  • Masantol: No face-to-face classes at all levels (public and private) on July 21 and 22
  • San Simon: All levels, public and private
  • Sto. Tomas: No face-to-face classes from daycare to senior high school (public and private)

Pangasinan

  • Basista: Classes suspended from daycare to senior high school (public and private)

Local officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and monitor updates from PAGASA and their respective Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs).

Although online learning has not been officially mandated in suspended areas, some schools may implement asynchronous or modular learning to avoid disruption in the academic calendar.

The Department of Education (DepEd) reminds schools and parents to prioritize safety, especially in flood-prone regions. Further suspension announcements may be made in the coming hours depending on changing weather conditions.
