PAGASA Issues Rainfall and Flood Alerts Today January 4, 2026

Manila, January 4, 2026 – The state weather bureau, PAGASA, has issued a series of weather advisories and flood warnings as a Shear Line continues to dump significant moisture over several regions of the Philippines. Residents in the Visayas, Bicol, and parts of Mindanao are urged to stay vigilant against potential flash floods and landslides.

Pagasa Rainfall Warnings

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

According to the latest advisory, the Shear Line is expected to bring persistent rains through the next 24 to 48 hours.

  • Today, January 4: Rainfall totals of 50-100 mm are expected across Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and the entirety of Samar and Leyte provinces (Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte). In Western Visayas, Negros Occidental, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras are also under alert.
  • Tomorrow, January 5: The heavy rain (50-100 mm) is forecast to shift its focus toward the Bicol Peninsula, specifically affecting Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon.
Rainfall Warning

PAGASA warns that these rainfall estimates may be significantly higher in mountainous or elevated terrains. Furthermore, the risk of flooding is compounded by antecedent rainfall—soil that is already saturated from previous days of rain is more prone to immediate runoff and landslides.

General Flood Advisories (GFA)

As of 6:00 AM today, General Flood Advisories remain in effect for the following regions:

  • Region 4-B (MIMAROPA), Region 5 (Bicol), Region 6 (Western Visayas), and Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) are all under GFA #5, indicating a continued threat to river systems and low-lying areas.
  • In contrast, weather conditions are improving in Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) and BARMM, where GFA #6 has been issued as the Final Advisory for this event.
