Pagasa Weather Forecast: LPA East of Mindanao Brings Rains to Visayas and Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Thursday afternoon, September 11, 2025, that a Low Pressure Area (LPA) is currently being monitored east of Southern Mindanao.

Afternoon Weather Update

As of 3:00 p.m., the LPA was estimated at 980 kilometers east of Southern Mindanao, located at 7.6°N, 134.7°E. The weather bureau added that the easterlies continue to affect Luzon and the Visayas, while localized thunderstorms are influencing Mindanao’s weather patterns.

Weather Conditions

Pagasa said that Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA. These areas may face flash floods and landslides triggered by moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and most parts of the Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. These will mainly be caused by the prevailing easterlies. Pagasa warned that severe thunderstorms could still bring flooding or landslide risks.

The rest of Mindanao is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms brought about by localized thunderstorms, with similar hazards possible during intense downpours.

Wind and Sea Conditions

  • Northern Luzon: Light to moderate winds from the east, with slight to moderate seas (0.6 to 1.2 meters).
  • Visayas and the rest of Luzon: Light to moderate winds from the northeast to southeast, with coastal waters also slight to moderate (0.6 to 1.2 meters).
  • Mindanao: Light and variable winds, with slight seas (0.4 to 1.0 meters).

Pagasa noted that while no tropical cyclone is currently expected to form within the next 24 hours, the LPA’s movement will continue to be closely monitored.

General Flood Advisories

At 6:00 p.m. today, Pagasa issued flood advisories for several regions:

  • Region 4A (CALABARZON) – GFA #5 Final
